Lift

“Lift”

Waitin’ on the wrong side of the way
Like an old familiar song
Need a lift, get in, come along, come along

Webster known best by friends is the name
Says profound as His passion
Need a lift, get in, come along, come along

Wallet sized Son on the dashboard
Like a trophy from way back when

If we’re waiting to be perfect to pray
We’re never gonna get there
If we’re waiting to be perfect to praise
We’re never gonna get there or anywhere
What are we waiting for as proof
To lift us to our feet and lay down our life
Where ya headin to?

Are you an angel is the topic at hand
We’ve sung that song before, oh Lord
Need a lift, get in, come along, come along

What does The Good Book say about this
It is The Greatest Command
Need a lift, get in, come along, for a song

Passin’ the rusty back end
The Jesus fish alone won’t save the world

If we’re waiting to be perfect to pray
We’re never gonna get there
If we’re waiting to be perfect to praise
We’re never gonna get there or anywhere
What are we waiting for as proof
To lift us to our feet and lay down our life
Where ya headin to?

I said You can go on and leave me off anywhere, I can walk from here
I know You didn’t get me home
But You got me where I’m goin’ with time to spare
I appreciate the lift, You are quite a gift
And thanks for the invitation
Can I give You anything
He said, don’t thank Me
I’m sure someday you’ll do the same for someone too

Don’t just say it
You got to live it
Don’t just say it
Do it all in The Name of…

First Communion Selfless Portrait

Sometime around 2008, the beginning of my year was sparked with a theme song that seemed to be a personal directive of how I should approach the timeframe ahead. With an open mind and new window, I took on the tune and would listen to it every Monday before the workweek would begin. Every year since, with the New Year a new song has seemed to find its way into my world – and I’ve kept a similar stride to try and listen the inspiration for the 365 at the beginning of every week.

This week’s share incorporates a fresh personal piece and marries them into a collage with these songs to result in a medley that is a personal declaration of independence.

The messages of Spirit and direction to me are HUGE – and I hope you can find the same in their familiarity.

“First Communion Selfless Portrait”

The first new day
I say, this is my body
I give it up to you
In service and suffering

The first big step
I say as I am bleeding,
I offer you all
In sacrifice as I sing

The first new day
With honest intention
My lifelong song of redemption
Finally begun

The first big step
The weak will be made strong
The first day together
Two gather – as one!

“Crazy” - by Seal & Guy Sigsworth
No, we’re never gonna survive unless we get a little crazy
No, we’re never gonna survive unless we get a little…

“Dare You to Move” - by Jon Foreman (Switchfoot)
Dare you to move
Dare you to move
Dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
Dare you to move
Dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened…

“These Are Days” – by Robert Buck & Natalie Merchant
These are days you’ll remember
When May is rushing over you with desire
To be part of the miracles you’ll see in every hour
You’ll know it’s true that you are blessed and lucky
It’s true that you are touched by something
That will grow and bloom…

“Follow Your Heart” - by Gil Moore, Mike Levine, Rik Emmett (Triumph)
Follow your heart
You’ve got to follow your heart
Living for today, forget about tomorrow
Follow your heart
You’ve got to follow your heart
Any other way will only lead to sorrow…

“Heart of Worship” - by Matt Redman
I’m coming back to the heart of worship
And it’s all about You, it’s all about You, Jesus
I’m sorry, Lord for the thing I’ve made it
When it’s all about You, it’s all about You…

“Dreams” - by Dolores O’Riordan & Noel Hogan (Cranberries)
Oh, my life is changing every day
In every possible way
Though my dreams, it’s never quite as it seems
‘Cause you’re a dream to me, dream to me, dream to me…

THE WORD: Proceed

With Inspirations from Robbie Ytterberg
Ezekiel 4: 1-17 | 2 Corinthians 5: 11-21

…One for all, without expectation
I take no credit, but all praise to Jesus for our salvation.
This is why I do what I do!
I dare you to dream.
My wish to inspire you
All for truth, all for you!!!

I Love You More

With the spark and nudge to begin writing such a song, I realized I needed to capture a moment in time where I have found such obvious and profound influence from a few individuals who are supplying me with endurance for the journey at hand and ahead.

I wanted to write this to honor first, my mom, but also all mothers who – no matter what age – follow their nature to provide for and protect their children. My mom has helped to sustain me throughout all the peaks and valleys in life and has believed in the dream of my purpose when no one else or myself did.

I’m not sure how all of those who have inspired this outpouring are connected but I’m blessed to be the thoroughfare to unite and deliver a greater message than I alone am capable. But somehow a piece of each of their stories as relayed in this song is to reach out and change one of the other’s life.

When it comes right down to it, I’m not really sure this is as much me saying this to you as it is what you might want to say – or what someone else might be trying to say to you. So listen to your heart to know who needs to be the one to speak and who needs to be the listening ear.

This life is fragile and we could not keep it together without the connection, hope and help of others.

I have learned in life, you do not wait until it’s too late to say what you would like to say to other, so with the greatest appreciation for who you’ve been to me…

I love you more!
Jeff

Mom – For a friendship like no other. My biggest fan from your biggest fan. I thank you for the foundation of you that allows me to recognize such beauty in all those who inspire me here and otherwise.
Patty – For the safe place you provide for our little bubba. You are the companion to him that he can rely on and call home.
Momma D – For takin’ one for the team so you could change and let others be changed through you.
Ali (& Your Mom) – For the encouragement and example of endurance that is like that of a guardian – and could only come from a great foundation in your mom.
Mary Ann – For the understanding of sacrifice in life. I have taken the transforming directions from you and your family so personal. Thank you!!!
All together – If you can only see the magnificent things I see in you, I wish you will always see them in your self. I’m often breathless at the glimpses of connection between each of you – and some day it will all make sense why we’re intertwined.

“I Love You More”

How do you watch your baby cry
When they’re hangin’ on for dear life
You feel so helpless, and all you can say is
“It’s gonna be OK”

The many times our faith was strained
And how we would resist a change
But we helped keep each others sanity
While God granted us His serenity

Oh, Patty cake and baker’s man
How we’d love to hear your song, dear friend
A hymn or rhyme just one more time
To put us back together again

Some day one of us will have to go home first
For the one left behind, that day might be the worst
So well cross our heart and hope to fly
And as we say goodbye
We’ll say it like we have a hundred times before
I love you
No, I love you
I said I love you
I love you more

There are prob’ly times when you thought you did everything wrong
When you could have done nothing more right, all along
You have always thought more about everyone else
Than you would ever do for your self

There are times when I’ve wondered if you fell out of the sky
To watch over and get me through this life
Maybe we’ll never know quite how all of this works
But we will get each other through the hurt

For now it’s, good morning darlin’ and pleasant dreams
Good night, sleep tight
Baby rock-a-bye

You’ll always be the wind beneath my wings
Even as the hope in my heart sinks
How do we say goodbye
When it feels like we’ve been friends longer than life
We need to let each other slip away
To meet again that final day

How do you watch a mother try
To hold on to all that’s dear in her life
You feel so helpless, and all you can say is
“It’s gonna be OK”
